02 - Reading Somebody

Question 25: Would you rather date someone plain with an amazing personality or someone beautiful with a plain personality?

Well, can we have both? Hehe

Regarding the saying of “don’t judge a book by its cover”, the ideal answer must be someone plain with an amazing personality; but my answer would be I’d rather have the personality. No surprise.

I strongly agree that first impression does matter, but when it comes to dating someone, I need that “deg” feeling. Fortunately, my heart and eyes are making a great team on this. Cumaaa memang dari yang sudah-sudah aku tida suka yang terlalu tampan seperti Timothée Chalamet atau siapa gitu contohnya figur publik Indonesia yang super tampan. Selain karena sadar bentukan sendiri, aku tida suka merasa terintimidasi, tapi memang alasan utamanya aku sadar bentukanku sendiri. Period.

As I grow older and learn to be wiser, I store my first impression moment as a good memory to note about somebody. After that, I tend to learn knowing somebody as a living complexity, no matter how simple s/he is a person. Terdengar ribet dan meribetkan diri sendiri, tapi aku percaya setiap orang punya sisi lebih dari apa yang dia tunjukkan ke aku. Seseorang terbentuk dari bagaimana dia merespon dan mengelola masa lalunya, lingkungannya, masalahnya, pertemanannya, sampai konflik dengan dirinya sendiri. So it’s always more than just an appearance. Lalu saat aku mulai sebel sama seseorang, aku akan tahu kalo aku masuk ke tahap yang beneran kenal sama orang ini.

When it comes to dating, biasanya aku akan tahu that this thing is/starts to be more than friendship. Di suatu kasus, aku pernah baca nama orang yang ga terlalu aku kenal di atas kertas, and that “deg” feeling came. Ternyata setelah kenal, secara personality beneran cocok, walaupun faktanya “warna” lingkungan kami beda banget. Fortunately, he was kinda cute. I told you my heart and eyes are in a great team.

Di antara pilihan look atau personality, mungkin aku akan ambil jalan tengahnya, yaitu karisma. I tend to fall for that. He needs to amaze me with his thoughts, the way he treats other people, his surroundings, himself, and he must be great at reading me back. Seriously.

But I guess, what’s more important than me choosing the look or personality, is that we need to choose each other.
